Ingredients
2tablespoonchili powder
4teaspoonsground cumin
1teaspoonsea salt
1teaspoonfresh ground black pepper
½teaspoongarlic powder
½teaspoononion powder
½teaspoonpaprika
½teaspoondried oregano
½teaspoonred pepper flakes
¼teaspoonground cayenne pepper
4tablespoonsdried minced onion
Instructions
Combine the chili powder, cumin, kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, red pepper flakes, ground cayenne, and if desired dried minced onion in a small bowl.
Whisk or stir to combine well.
Store in an airtight container in a cool place in the kitchen.
Notes
The fresher the spices and herbs are the better the seasoning will be.
Store in an airtight container away from the heat of the stove.
If you don't like a particular spice simply omit it. That is a huge benefit to mixing your own blends.
Though it is not traditional try substituting marjoram for the oregano. Marjoram is less pungent, more mild, and sweeter with a woodsy citrus aroma.
This seasoning blend will last about one year. After that it will begin to lose it's potency and aroma especially in regard to the dried herbs.
One standard packet of taco seasoning is equivalent to 2 tablespoons of homemade taco seasoning so adjust your favorite recipes accordingly.
