Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. bacon chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter salted or unsalted
  • 1 1/2 lb, brussels sprouts trimmed and halved
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • kosher salt to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

Instructions

  • Cook the chopped bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and reserve the bacon grease in the skillet.
  • Melt the butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the Brussels sprouts and stir to coat them with the bacon grease and butter. Cook until golden brown and fork tender.
  • Reduce the heat to low. Add the minced garlic. Stir and cook for 1 minute,
  • Add the cooked chopped bacon back to the skillet with the brusels sprouts. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Drizzle with the maple syrup and toss to coat.

Notes

  • Look for Brussels sprouts that are bright green and firm to the touch with tightly layered leaves. Small to medium size sprouts are usually sweeter and more tender than larger ones.
  • Prep the Brussels Sprouts by trimming off the rough ends and removing any blemished or yellowed leaves.
  • Cut the Brussels sprouts in half from top to bottom, cutting right through the middle of the core at the bottom. Then, give them a quick rinse and pat dry.
  • In this recipe, I cut the bacon raw and cook it in the skillet. However you can cook the bacon as slices in the skillet and then chop it or bake it in the oven and chop it.
