Notes
Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice is always best. I really prefer Ruby Red grapefruit juice. This citrus is a little sweeter, with plenty of vitamin C and antioxidants.
If you prefer to keep this cocktail ice-free. Simply add some ice to a cocktail shaker, add a few ounces of grapefruit juice, and a couple of ounces of gin or vodka. Shake to combine and chill, and pour into a salt-rimmed glass.
Garnish with fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme.
You can easily add a splash of simple syrup if the grapefruit juice is too tart for you. To prepare your simple syrup, heat equal amounts of water and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves, and let it fully cool.
To make this in a pitcher for parties, combine 24 ounces of grapefruit juice with 8 ounces of vodka. Or, for a large pitcher, 48 ounces of grapefruit juice with 16 ounces of vodka.
If you like a little bubbles, add a splash of club soda right before serving.
