Cannoli Dip

This delectable creamy cannoli dip is like having an extra large helping of the best part of the cannoli.  This sweet treat is always a huge hit at potlucks and family functions.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2/3 cup mini chocolate chips plus more for garnish

Instructions

  • Using a stand mixer or hand held mixer on medium speed beat cream cheese and ricotta cheese until smooth and creamy.  Add powdered sugar 1/4 cup at a time until fully mixed it.
  • Turn mixer to low.  Mix in almond extract and lemon zest.
  • Remove from mixer and fold in chocolate chips.  If desired sprinkle the top with more chocolate chips.

Notes

  • If you like ricotta cheese than you will more than likely love this dip.  However if you don't like the texture of ricotta than this dip is probably not for you.
  • Use only whole milk Ricotta Cheese for this recipe.  The lower milk fat ricotta cheeses are not thick enough and the dip will be too soupy.
  • You can substitute a little orange zest, nutmeg or cinnamon in place of the lemon zest.  They are each delicious albeit slightly different.
  • For a change of pace use vanilla extract in place of the almond extract.
  • Don't add anymore almond extract without tasting first.  A little almond extract goes a long long way.
  • Cover and refrigerate the dip if not serving right away.  Store leftovers in airtight container in the fridge.
