Strawberry Milk Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups whole milk well chilled
  • 3-4 drops red food coloring optional
  • whipped cream optional

Instructions

  • Add the strawberries, water, and sugar to a small pot and simmer gently for about 10-12 minutes.
  • Strain the strawberries and juice through a fine mesh strainer gently pressing the strawberries against the mesh to extract as much of the juice as possible.
  • Let it cool down for 10-15 minutes. Add 2-3 tablespoons of the syrup to a well chilled glass of milk and stir to combine.
  • If desired add 1-2 drops red food coloring per glass and a little bit of whipped cream.

Notes

  • Both fresh and frozen strawberries work well with this recipe.
  • The milk turns a pale pink so if you want a little more color add a few drops of food coloring.
  • McCormick sells natural food coloring made from plants, veggies and seeds.
  • Store the strawberry syrup in the fridge in a sealable container like a mason jar for up to 2 weeks.  That way you can use it to make a quick glass at a moments notice.
  • I prefer whole milk with this recipe but 2% will work as well however it will not be as creamy.  If you have any half and half or cream in the refrigerator add a little splash and stir to combine.
  • Don't be too quick to throw out those mashed strawberries.  They are delicious in a bowl of greek yogurt, vanilla ice cream or even cottage cheese.
