Ingredients
5Italian sausages
1mediumgreen bell pepper, cut into ½ inch strips
1mediumred bell pepper, cut into ½ inch strips
1mediumyellow onion, cut into ½ inch wedges
2clovesgarlic, minced
½teaspoondried Italian seasonings
1¼cupmarinara sauce
1¼cupshredded mozzarella
3tablespoonsbutter, melted
5hoagie rolls
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Brown the sausages until cooked through in a large skillet over medium heat. Plate the sausages and cover to keep warm. Remove all but 1 tablespoon of fat from the skillet.
Add the bell pepper and onions. Cook the onions and bell peppers over medium heat until soft and lightly browned on the edges. Add the sausage to the bell peppers and warm for a few minutes. Plate the sausages, bell peppers, and onions. Cover to keep warm.
Butter the buns and toast them in the skillet.
Assemble the sandwiches by adding a sausage to each toasted bun, then layer with ¼ cup marinara sauce, cooked bell peppers and onions, and ¼ cup shredded mozzarella.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and place it in the oven. Bake for about 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the sandwiches are heated through.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheat in the microwave at 50% power for short intervals until warm.
