Ingredients
1lbpizza dough
1 ½tablespoonsolive oil
2clovescrushed garlic
½teaspoondried oregano
1 ½cupscrushed tomatoes
Salt to taste
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
½tablespooncornmeal
8ouncesfresh mozzarella
Basil leavessliced into ribbons
¼cupfreshly shaved parmesan
Red pepper flakesoptional
Instructions
Remove the pizza dough from the fridge and place it in a bowl lightly brushed with olive oil. Cover and let it rest for about 2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Preheat a 12-inch pizza stone in the oven.
Heat the olive oil in a medium skillet over low heat. Cook the garlic and oregano for 1 minute, while stirring. Stir in the crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Simmer for a few minutes while you work the pizza dough.
Spread the cornmeal on a clean work surface. Pat out the pizza dough. Carefully move it to the preheated stone, dock it, and prebake for 6-7 minutes.
Spread the pizza sauce over the prebaked crust. Top with mozzarella slices.
Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.
Sprinkle with basil ribbons, shaved Parmesan cheese, and, if desired, crushed red pepper.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Reheat in a covered skillet over medium-low heat for 6-7 minutes on the stovetop.
