Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups whole milk well chilled
  • 3-4 drops red food coloring optional
  • whipped cream optional

Instructions

  • Add the strawberries, water, and sugar to a small pot and simmer gently for about 10-12 minutes.
  • Strain the strawberries and juice through a fine mesh strainer, gently pressing the strawberries against the mesh to extract as much of the juice as possible.
  • Let it cool down for 10-15 minutes. Add 2-3 tablespoons of the syrup to a well-chilled glass of milk and stir to combine.
  • If desired, add 1-2 drops of red food coloring per glass and a little bit of whipped cream.

Notes

  • Store the strawberry syrup in the fridge in a sealable container, such as a mason jar, for up to 2 weeks.  That way, you can use it to make a quick glass at a moment's notice.
