Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
See the complete list of ingredients below on the recipe card.
- Cooked chicken: This recipe works with any cooked chicken, including roasted, poached, stewed, or grilled.
- Cream of chicken soup: You can substitute cream of mushroom soup.
- Garlic powder: I like to use Kinder’s woodfired garlic, but you can use any garlic powder.
- Ritz crackers: I used Ritz Everything baked with onion, poppy seeds, garlic, and sea salt, but you can use any Ritz crackers.
- Butter: Unsalted or salted butter.
- Fresh herbs: Thyme, rosemary, or parsley.
How To Make Ritz Cracker Chicken Casserole
This is a summary version; for the complete list of ingredients and instructions, please refer to the recipe card below.
- Mix the crushed Ritz crackers with the melted butter.
- Stir the cooked chicken, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and green onions.
- Spread the chicken mixture in a 2½-quart greased casserole dish and top with the Ritz cracker topping.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is heated.

How To Make This Casserole Ahead Of Time
This casserole can be prepped up to 24 hours in advance. Do not add the cracker crumb topping until you are ready to bake. Cover the casserole dish tightly with plastic wrap. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator 40 minutes before baking. Mix the cracker topping and sprinkle it over the chicken mixture. Bake as instructed.
Serving Suggestions
I like to serve this with southern-style green beans, roasted Brussels sprouts, or creamed spinach. Other great accompaniments are marinated cucumbers and onions, three-bean salad, and Italian chopped salad.

Ritz Cracker Casserole is something I remember having as a kid when my mom made it. We ate Ritz Crackers all the time, and I used to think they were ours because my last name is Ritzman.
