Sautéed Green Beans with garlic is a quick and easy side dish that complements almost any main course. You can have these tasty beans ready with just a little more than a handful of common pantry ingredients in about ten minutes.

This delicious side dish can be prepared with any green beans, but I particularly like the haricots verts, also known as French green beans. They are longer, more slender, and more tender than regular green beans. They are also a little more costly, but I think they are worth every penny.

How to Saute Green Beans
First, heat the oil and melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Then add the green beans and cook for 5-10 minutes or until desired tenderness. Reduce the heat to low and add the minced garlic. Cook for 1 minute while stirring. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with fresh chopped herbs like rosemary, thyme, or Italian parsley.

Recipe Tips
- It really is not necessary to blanch your green beans unless you like them very soft. We prefer them crisp-tender, but keep in mind that you can achieve pretty tender beans without blanching them.
- My preferred bean for this recipe is the French green bean (also known as haricots verts), but you can use any green bean. Just make sure that you trim the stem end of the green bean. I use haricots verts in my green beans almondine and bacon green bean bundles.
- Other herbs to consider are chopped fresh thyme, parsley, and basil or dried oregano or marjoram.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop over low heat or in the microwave at reduced power.
