Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
See the complete list of ingredients on the recipe card below.
- Pizza dough: Grocery stores and bakeries sell ready-made pizza dough. You can also use premade refrigerated pizza crust or make homemade pizza dough.
- Ground beef: Use ground beef with a bit of fat. Fat gives the dish flavor. You can substitute ground turkey, pork, or chicken.
- Taco seasoning: Use your favorite store-bought or homemade seasoning.
- Refried beans: Either canned or homemade.
- Salsa: Use your favorite jarred salsa or fresh.
- Cheese: Try cheddar, Monterey Jack, or queso quesadilla.
- Tomatoes: Grape or cherry tomatoes, halved.
How To Make Taco Pizza
This is a summary version; for the complete list of ingredients and instructions, please refer to the recipe card below.
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. About halfway through the browning process, add the onion.
- Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until most of the moisture has cooked off and the beef mixture is seasoned.
- Mix the refried beans and salsa.
- Pat out the pizza dough on a pizza stone and prebake for about 8 minutes.
- Spread the refried bean mixture over the prebaked crust. Top with the seasoned beef, cheddar cheese, black olives, green onions, and tomatoes.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese melts and the crust browns on the edges.
- Sprinkle the taco pizza with chopped cilantro.

Culinary Advice
- Let the pizza dough rest at room temperature for 2-4 hours. To do this, brush some olive oil into a glass or ceramic bowl. Add the pizza dough and cover the bowl with plastic wrap, and let it sit at room temperature for a while. This makes the dough easier to work with by letting the gluten relax.
- After patting out the pizza dough, poke it well with a table fork. This process is known as docking.
- This pizza is equally delicious with rotisserie chicken. It adds a distinct flavor dimension and is easy to shred. They are available at most grocery stores and warehouse clubs like Costco and Sam’s Club.

Perfect Pairings
- Appetizers: 7-layer dip, queso fundido, or easy taco dip.
- Salad: corn salad, Mexican coleslaw, or Mexican street corn pasta salad.
- Soup: gazpacho, chicken taco soup, or black bean soup.

This looks delicious! It’s been a while since we made pizza at home because we usually just order, but I think the kids would have so much fun making their own. They love tacos too, so this sounds like the perfect combination. Thanks for sharing the recipe. We’ll definitely have to try it soon!
