This delicious and easy Cheeseburger Pie is made with ground beef, bacon, onions, cheddar, Pepper jack Cheese, and Bisquick Baking Mix. It combines all the delicious flavors of cheesy burgers in pie form. This “Impossible Cheeseburger Pie” is always a huge hit with family and friends.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
See the complete list of ingredients on the recipe card below.
- Ground Beef: Use ground beef with a little fat. Fat is what gives it flavor. I use 80/20 percent.
- Bacon: Any bacon will work.
- Onion: This can be substituted for celery, carrots, bell peppers, or fennel.
- Garlic: Use fresh garlic for the best flavor.
- Ketchup: Barbecue sauce if you prefer more tang.
- Cheese: You can substitute other cheeses that melt well, such as Monterey Jack, Gouda, Swiss, Gruyere, Muenster, Provolone, mozzarella, and Colby Jack.
- Bisquick baking mix: See below for how to make it if you can not purchase it.
- Milk: I use whole milk.
How to Make Cheeseburger Pie
This is a summary version; for the complete list of ingredients and instructions, please refer to the recipe card below.
- Brown the ground beef and bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until halfway browned. Toss in the chopped onion, and cook the beef and bacon until browned and the onion is soft.
- Reduce the heat to low, add the garlic, and cook for a minute while stirring. Drain any excess grease and remove from the heat.
- Stir in the seasoned salt, black pepper, and ketchup. Let it cool for a few minutes.
- Once cooled, stir in the cheese and spoon the mixture into a deep dish 9-inch pie plate sprayed with nonstick baking spray.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick baking mix, milk, and eggs. Pour over the hamburger cheese mixture and bake in a preheated oven for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the pie comes out clean.
- Let the pie cool for a few minutes before slicing.

How To Make Cheeseburger Pie Without Bisquick
You may not have Bisquick mix, but you can still make this with easy pantry staples. Simply replace the mix with this simple recipe.
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons shortening or butter
Whisk the first three ingredients together in a bowl. Cut the shortening in with a pastry knife until the mixture is crumbly. Then, proceed with the rest of the recipe by mixing in the milk and eggs.

Preparation Tips
- See above for substitutions when Bisquick is not available.
- Ground turkey or ground chicken can be substituted for the ground beef.
- You can serve your choice of toppings on the side. I like to serve it with shredded lettuce, dill pickles, tomatoes, and onions.
- If desired, sprinkle an extra layer of shredded cheese on the hamburger pie before baking.

What To Top This Cheeseburger Pie With
There are so many options. Try pickled jalapenos, coleslaw, sauteed mushrooms and onions, ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, or southern comeback sauce.

Adding bacon to the mix is a brilliant way to get that smoky burger flavor without firing up the grill. Using pepper jack for the cheese blend gives it just enough of a kick to stay interesting.

Mixing pepper jack with the beef is a bold choice for a classic bake. I find that using the higher fat ground beef makes the texture so much better than the lean stuff. It turns out great every time.

So glad that you like it, Kat!

That looks so yummy! I would love to make that without the crust and see what happens. Flour doesn’t like me anymore.
