What are Lemon Pepper Wings made of?
Lemon Pepper Wings are crispy fried, baked, or air-fried chicken wings coated with the flavor of lemon pepper butter. They are the perfect finger food appetizer for game day, movie night, or your next shindig.
How to make Lemon Pepper Wings
Start by drying your chicken wings very well. Then, combine the cornstarch and salt in a bowl. Add the wings and toss to coat. Now bake the wings in a preheated oven until golden brown, crispy, and cooked through.
When the wings are just a few minutes from being done, melt the butter in a saucepan. Then, remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the lemon juice, lemon pepper, and honey. Pour the butter mixture into a large bowl. Remove the wings from the oven and toss them in the butter mixture. Sprinkle with just a light dusting of lemon pepper. For best results, serve promptly.
Recipe notes and helpful tips
- Use parchment paper when baking the wings in the oven for even baking, extra crispy wings, and easy cleanup.
- Coating the wings with cornstarch gives them that extra crispy skin. It is easy, and this quick step really seals the deal for crispy wing lovers.
- Make sure your lemon pepper is fresh. Lemon pepper loses its gusto as it ages.
- You can melt the butter in the microwave to save on dishwashing time. I personally prefer to melt it over the stovetop.
- Sprinkle a little more lemon pepper or add a little lemon zest onto the wings right after smothering them in the butter mixture and before serving.
- Use freshly squeezed lemon juice.
- Garnish the platter with fresh chopped parsley and lemon slices.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- To freeze, first cool, then add the wings to a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat in the air fryer at 360 degrees for 2-3 minutes.
How to make Air Fryer Chicken Wings
Start by drying your chicken wings very well. Then, combine the cornstarch and salt in a bowl. Add the wings and toss to coat. Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees. Once preheated, add the chicken wings to the air fryer basket with a little space between the wings. Cook for 11-14 minutes, then flip and cook for another 11-14 minutes or until browned, crispy, and cooked through.
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Then, remove the butter from the heat and stir in the lemon juice, lemon pepper, and honey. Pour the butter mixture into a large bowl. Remove the fully cooked wings from the air fryer and toss them in the butter mixture. Then sprinkle with a little bit of lemon pepper. For best results, serve promptly with fresh lemon wedges, ranch dressing, and blue cheese dressing.
