Crack Dip is a fun and tasty crowd-pleasing easy ranch dip recipe that is perfect for movie nights, game day, and parties. This cream cheese-based dip is loaded with cheddar cheese, bacon, green onion, and ranch seasoning. A word of caution as the flavor is slightly addicting. Serve with a variety of crackers, chips, and veggies.
How to make crack dip
First, set aside 1 tablespoon of shredded cheddar, chopped bacon, and green onions. Then add the cream cheese, sour cream, ranch seasoning mix, shredded cheddar cheese, green onions, and ground pepper to a medium mixing bowl. Beat the mixture with a handheld electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Stir in the chopped bacon. Spoon into a serving bowl and garnish with cheddar, bacon, and green onions that are set aside. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.
Recipe tips
- For ease in making the dip creamy, bring the cream cheese to room temperature.
- Real bacon bits can be substituted for the crisp chopped bacon.
- Slice the green onions thin with a sharp knife. It is fine to use both green and white parts of the green onion.
- This dip is also delicious served warm. Just spread it in a small baking dish and bake in a 400-degree oven for about 20 minutes. Garnish with green onions and bacon bits.
- Serve with crackers, potato chips, tortilla chips, pretzel crisps, Fritos, carrot sticks, celery sticks, or bell pepper wedges.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Variations
- Cheeses – my favorite cheese for this dip is sharp cheddar, but other cheeses that are delicious and work well include white cheddar, pepper jack, and Monterey Jack.
- Add a little heat – add a little minced jalapeno, ground cayenne pepper, or chopped chipotle pepper with adobo sauce.
- Protein – add cooked ground sausage or finely chopped cooked chicken.
