This mouthwatering good six ingredient Southern Comeback Sauce lives up to its name. It will keep you coming back time and time again for more. It is a delicious condiment, but I also love to serve it as a dipping sauce with Beer Battered Onion Rings with Dipping Sauce and Air Fryer Chicken Wings (3 ways).
If you have never had this southern sauce, then I can assure you that you must try it. It takes less than five minutes to mix up, and it is delicious with fries, onion rings, chicken fingers, beer battered fish, fried shrimp, cocktail shrimp, fried green beans, and quesadillas. However, it really needs to come with a disclaimer that once you taste it, you will be addicted. This tasty sauce originated at a Greek restaurant named The Rotisserie in Jackson, Mississippi, as the house dressing.
How do you make Southern Comeback Sauce?
It really does not get any easier than this. Just grab a medium bowl and whisk together the mayonnaise, chili sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and honey. Season with kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to meld the flavors together.
What do you use Comeback Sauce on?

- Fried foods like french fries, shrimp, fish, onion rings, and chicken.
- Potato chips, tortilla chips, and pretzels
- Hot wings, fried wings, baked wings, chicken nuggets, and air fryer wings

I plan to make this sauce but I am confused. In the comments, many are mentioning type of hot sauce and Cajun seasoning, but neither are mentioned in the ingredient list. Am I missing something? Also, what chili sauce do you use? Thanks!
Beth Pierce
You can add a little cajun seasoning or hot sauce to kick the heat up a few notches. I use Heinz chili sauce
Susan Sims
I can’t say enough about this phenomenal sauce. My husband is literally addicted and we use it as a dip. I’m actually having to double the recipe it goes so quickly….and we haven’t even had it on burgers or sandwiches yet. Its. better than any sauce we’ve ever had. I love your recipes. I’m making your Cajun Dirty Rice tonight with your homemade Cajun spice MX. I’m going to search your site now to see if you have a white dip (no cheese) like they serve at Mexican restaurants.
Beth Pierce
Thanks, Susan! You could dunk anything in comeback sauce and it would taste good. I do have a white queso dip made with white American cheese.
Susan Sims
Want to update you. Came home today and my hubby had mixed up some comeback sauce. I didn’t act quickly enough when he requested it, so he forged ahead on his own. He actually found a recipe that is almost identical to your’s (I compared them) but it wasn’t!! As soon as I tasted it I knew what it lacked, the honey. As soon as I added it, we were both happy. I am proud of him for his efforts. I’ll have to show him how to get to my saved recipes. Your’s is the best of all recipes just like it is!
Beth Pierce
Thanks so much, Susan. My hubby doesn’t do much at all in the kitchen, so I think that is great and I would be proud too! I loved that you shared that with me. You put a big smile on my face.

OMG this sauce is to die for!!! It’s hard to find “cajun” seasoning in canada so I used this recipe: https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/cajun-seasoning/#tasty-recipes-60313 and made your sauce. WOW! We can’t wait to use this on sandwiches and burgers too. Delicious.
Beth Pierce
Thanks Emily! So glad that you liked it and were able to make the cajun seasoning.
Chris
Did you mean 1 Tablespoon of hot sauce? That sounds like a lot.
Beth Pierce
Yes but you can cut back and add more if you like later.
Chris
Mayo disperses a lot of the heat. I remember trying to make a mayo based wing sauce at a restaurant a long time ago, and it took a lot of Sambal Oelek and Sriracha to make it very spicy.
DEBRA VIOLETTE
Southern Comeback Sauce looks amazing. What type of hot sauce do you use? Tabasco or Sriracha? Please let me know. Thanks.
