Step up burger night with this delectable homemade Burger Sauce. It takes your burgers to a whole new flavor level, has just seven ingredients, and takes less than three minutes to whip up. It is better than In-n-Out burger sauce and Big Mac Sauce. Think of it as a stepped-up Thousand Island dressing.
My family loves this sauce, and I can prepare it in about the same amount of time it takes to throw a load of laundry in the machine. It is great on chicken tenders, grilled turkey burgers, sandwiches, and wraps, or as a dip or fry sauce for your French fries, beer battered onion rings, or air-fryer potato wedges. Mix some up today, and prepare to be wowed.
My husband thinks I make the best burgers around. My secret is to finely chop (almost mince) some sweet onion and mix it with the raw burger before putting the burgers on the grill. I also don’t use ground beef that is too lean. 80% lean, 20% fat is about as lean as you want to get when it comes to making burgers. Always top your burgers with goodies like lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and of course, burger sauce.
Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
See the complete list of ingredients below on the recipe card.
- Mayonnaise: I like to use Duke’s. I think it has great flavor and texture.
- Ketchup: Believe it or not, I think that organic ketchup tastes a little better.
- Mustard: I use Dijon, but in a pinch, you can use yellow mustard, spicy brown mustard, or honey mustard.
- Pickle relish: either sweet or dill.
Preparation Tips
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of pickle juice or white vinegar for a thinner sauce.
- Store the sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
- I do not recommend freezing this sauce. Of course, I do not know why anyone would do it, as it is so easy to make.
