Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
See the complete list of ingredients on the recipe card below.
- Club Soda: You can substitute sparkling water or seltzer water.
- Flavored Syrup: There are so many to choose from, including raspberry, mango, strawberry, vanilla, cherry, blackberry, grape, watermelon, pineapple, and coconut. You can even use sugar-free syrups.
- Heavy Cream: You can substitute half-and-half for the whipping cream for the soda portion of the recipe.
- Whipped Cream: You can use store-bought canned whipped cream, such as ReddiWip, or make fresh whipped cream.

How to Make Italian cream sodas
This is a summary version; for the complete list of ingredients and instructions, please refer to the recipe card below.
- Add ice to the glasses. Pour club soda into the glasses.
- Add the flavored syrup, then add the heavy cream.
- Top with whipped cream and assorted cherries, grapes, blackberries, or other fruit.
Where can I purchase sweet-flavored syrups?
Some local grocery stores carry the syrups, usually in the same aisle as the coffee. I have also purchased them from HomeGoods, but that can be a hit or a miss. Amazon is always a sure bet, and they carry a huge assortment of flavors, including the Torani brand of syrups. Just look under flavored syrups, and you will even find some sugar-free varieties.

For the prettiest appearance, don’t stir the drinks. Add a tall spoon or straw, and let the happy consumer take care of the rest. You can even give it a little more pizazz by adding a few sprinkles on top of the whipped cream.

I used heavy cream, which was so delicious with the bubbly soda. My favorite flavor is strawberry, with fresh strawberries added for garnish. Yum!
